Fire departments

Fire departments are an essential emergency service for the world we live in. Whether it be a structure fire, car wreck, smell of gasoline, or even a cat in a tree, firefighters put their life on the line in order or protect their community. If there is an emergency, such as a fire, we as the public instinctively call 911 and anticipate seeing fire trucks within a few minutes to rectify the situation. Over the years the number of volunteer firefighters have significantly decreased. In the 1980s it was reported Pennsylvania had over 300,000 volunteer firefighters. Today, that number is estimated to be around 38,000. There is a pressing need for men and women to sacrifice their time and serve their community across the county, state and country. Serving on a fire department doesn’t always mean having to gear up and rush to the scene of an emergency; for some it’s serving the department in other ways such as offering to be the treasurer, secretary or even just to clean the station once a week.

All of Clarion County’s fire departments are made up of volunteers dedicated to serving and protecting the communities they live in.
